Overview
Rib-X Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a product-driven small molecule
drug discovery and development company focused on the structure based
design of new classes of antibiotics. The Company has raised over $123 million
in three rounds of venture financing and has successfully moved two products into
late stage clinical development. Rib-X also has several early stage programs
that are about to enter clinical trials.
Rib-X designs and develops novel small-molecule antibiotics for the treatment of serious infections. The Company's underlying drug discovery engine capitalizes on its proprietary high-resolution crystal structure of the bacterial ribosome, which performs an essential role in the process of protein synthesis. Many commercially valuable classes of antibiotics bind to the bacterial ribosome, including oxazolidinones, tetracyclines and macrolides. Rib-X's integrated research strategy combines state-of-the-art, proprietary computational analysis, X-ray crystallography, medicinal chemistry, microbiology and biochemistry, thereby allowing Rib-X to rapidly synthesize new agents designed to avoid typical antibiotic resistance mechanisms. Rib-X's iterative intelligent engine has yielded several distinct new antibiotic classes. Rib-X’s technology offers a significant competitive advantage because unlike traditional antibiotic development that relies heavily on serendipity, Rib-X is able to examine the ribosome and build molecules to target specific regions. Rib-X's research goal is to use the structural data of the ribosome to design novel, proprietary classes of antibiotics that have a broad-spectrum activity and are highly effective against antibiotic resistant microorganisms. |
