Radezolid (RX-1741)

Radezolid is a novel oxazolidinone with broader spectrum of coverage and increased activity against Gram-positive organisms as compared to other oxazolidinones. Radezolid has recently completed successfully two Phase 2 clinical trials: one for community acquired pneumonia (CAP) and the second for uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections (uSSSI). Phase 2 data obtained to date indicate that this compound is well tolerated and effective in the treatment of uncomplicated skin infections and in the treatment of community-acquired pneumoniae. Rib-X is developing both the oral and intravenous formulations of radezolid.

Radezolid was designed using Rib-X’s proprietary antibiotic discovery process with the intent to expand the bacterial spectrum and improve the utility of the oxazolidinone class of antibiotics. Currently, there is only one other oxazolidinone marketed in the world, Zyvox® (linezolid). Radezolid has been shown to be microbiologically more active than linezolid against Gram-positive organisms, including potent activity against linezolid resistant bacteria.
